Presenter(s): Mary Coughlin, MS, NNP-NCC-E
Description: As Advanced Practice Nurses, we are more than clinicians—we are buffers against trauma, healers of the unseen wounds experienced by our tiniest patients, their families, and even ourselves. This session explores the neuroscience behind trauma-informed developmental care (TIDC) and the APN’s pivotal role in mitigating early-life adversity while fostering resilience. Through real-world application, ethical reflection, and innovative strategies, we will redefine the APN’s impact—not just in medical interventions, but in shaping a culture of healing and connection. Future of Neonatal Intensive Care in the US – Role of NNPS

Presenter(s): Satyan Lakshminrusimha, MD, FAAP; Jessica Meneses Jones, DNP, APRN, NNP-BC, C-NNIC
Description: In the US, the birthrate is rapidly decreasing. This has a marked impact on neonatal admissions to NICU. However, advancing maternal age and increasing resuscitation of extremely preterm infants at the borderline of viability is changing the complexity and chronicity of NICU patients. With reduced NICU rotations among pediatric residents, and changes in billing for critical care services, the role of NNPs is evolving. This review outlines the critical role NNPs play in the evolution of neonatal critical care in the US. (1.5 CEU)
