Jennifer Fitzgerald

Dr. Jen Fitzgerald is an advanced practice nurse and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner educator with a focus on critically ill neonates. She has been a nurse for 32 years with the past 25 years as a Neonatal NP.

Her areas of expertise include advanced practice care of the critically ill neonate, interprofessional collaboration, transport and stabilization of the critically ill neonate, nursing education, and team leadership. She completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in 2015 following completion of her scholarly work on the development and implementation of a guideline for Pre-Medication for Non-emergent Neonatal Intubations.

Her leadership roles include being the team Lead for the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) team at University of Maryland Medical Center prior to moving to the University of Maryland, Baltimore to join the Neonatal NP team of educators in 2020.

Since 2023 she has been the program director for University of Maryland Baltimore’s Neonatal NP track in the DNP program. She has presented locally, nationally, and internationally on topics related to clinical care of the neonate, case-based unique patient presentations, and quality improvement initiatives.
