Vita Boyar

Dr. Vita Boyar is a Chief of Neonatology for Hackensack Meridian Health Southern division in NJ. She joined HMH about a year ago after spending 16 years with Northwell Health, the last four as an Associate Director of Northwell Neonatal Services and chief of Cohen Children's Medical Center Level 4 NICU.

Dr. Boyar graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Medical School. She completed her pediatric residency and neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship at Schneider Children's Hospital, Long Island Jewish Health System, NY.

Over a decade of creative leadership started when Dr. Boyar was inspired by complex neonatal skin and wound injuries. She is the only neonatologist in the US certified by American Board of Wound Healing as Certified Wound Specialist Physician. She developed and led Northwell Pediatric and Neonatal Wound Services for 13 years. Her work has led to many publications, book chapters, national and international lectures. It has been featured in Good Morning America, national podcasts, and has received awards and honors.

Vita is a reviewer for various journals including Wounds, Journal of Perinatology, Journal of Dermatology, Journal of Wound Ostomy and Continence Nursing, Pediatric Dermatology, International Wound Journal and Dermatologic Therapy.

Dr. Boyar has long-standing history of academic involvement. She is Professor of Pediatrics at Hackensack School of Medine, and a member of Society for Pediatric Research. As a board member of International Society of Pediatric Wound Care and a member of Tiny Baby Collaborative she furthers national and international awareness of pediatric skin injuries. Her research interests include skin integrity in extremely preterm neonates, antimicrobial products in neonatal population, application of skin polymers and skin maturation as well as novel methods to prevent and treat skin injuries.
